Drastic changes made as Marvelous struggles financially
Marvelous, the company behind the publishing of games such as No More Heroes and Harvest Moon, has announced that due to financial problems, a lot of changes are to be made to the way they publish games.
In order to save the company, many large changes have been made. The company will no longer publish original games, only focusing on sequels, as well as publishing web browser games as well as console games. Furthermore, Marvelous will only publish games in Japan, meaning the only hope for certain games is if other publishers earn the license to publish them. Its European subsidary company is also to be sold off.
While Marvelous Games has published many well-known games, many of its games haven’t sold well, such as Little King’s Story. The company’s new tactic is to create sequels for the more established brands which have done better, such as Harvest Moon. It is unknown what impact this will have on upcoming games, such as No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
