Pokemon Black and White to contain just 5th Gen Pokemon…

…until later on in the game, that is.

Junichi Masuda, one of the big names behind Pokemon, has announced on his blog that until a certain  point in the game, no Pokemon before the fifth generation will be appearing. This means no Pikachu, Jigglypuff, or any Pokemon like that for a while, but instead new Pokemon such as the three starters (Tsutaja, Pokabu and Mijumaru), Zoroark, Munna, Gear, Victini and Kibago. In his blog, Masuda said the following:

“This time around, until the ending of the games, there are only new Pokemon. Only new Pokemon will appear! This way, adults and children alike will start from scratch, and have the fun of saying ‘what’s that Pokemon?’ just like in Red and Green. When people within the company played it, their feelings were… ‘It feels fresh because they’re all Pokemon I haven’t seen before,’ ‘I didn’t know the Pokemon types, so their attacks surprised me,’ ‘The new things make me feel like I did when I played Red and Green,’ and so on and so on, it was a really good vibe. Designing the Pokemon was an enormous feat… but my graphics team said, ‘Since everyone enjoyed it, we’re happy!’ Please play [the games] and see for yourself! Later!”

This seems to fit in with the ‘new experience’ feeling Game Freak are going for. This includes a region far away from other regions, going back to Route 1 for the names of the routes, and naming the games after colours again.

Two trailers have also been revealed. The first one shows a bunch of people playing the game in the same place, along with some gameplay footage such as footage on Team Plasma, the evil team in this game who play a PETA-like role, and footage of the player walking around Hiun City. You can see both of these at our source.

What do you think of this? Are you liking the fact that they’re going back to the old feeling, or do you think this is a bad idea?
