Kirby’s Epic Yarn was originally not a Kirby game
Original game was called Fluff’s Yarn
In the latest installment of Iwata Asks, the upcoming game Kirby’s Epic Yarn was called Fluff’s Yarn and starred an original character called Fluff, with no ties to the Kirby franchise.
The original game was called Fluff’s Yarn and was based off an original idea by the director of Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, Madoka Yamauchi. When Nintendo were shown the idea, they were impressed and a few months later called the development team, giving them the idea of changing the game to a Kirby game, pointing out the similarities in the characters Fluff and Kirby. Game producer Etsunobu Ebisu noted these similarities, but worried that changing Fluff to Kirby would anger the development team. However, when they saw Kirby in the game, they said it all made sense.
